On the 8th anniversary of my father’s passing (Feb. 4, 2010), I am posting a recording kindly given to me by Michael Haithcock, the band director of the University of Michigan, who studied conducting with my father when he was an undergrad at East Carolina University. This recording is of my father soloing on trombone with the Michigan band under the great William Revelli in Hill Auditorium. I don’t have the date at my fingertips, but I think it is 1958. The work is the “Recitative and Prayer” from Grande Symphony for Band by Berlioz.
